Hi People ! everyday we are closer to put our new version of Geoar online !!!.
We have tagged it as version 0.5.
Now there is a completely new OO design, a lot of improvements, corrections and features.
It's not under CVS on sourceforge, but i hope to upload it sooner.
We support Google map layers, WMS and currently we are adding new features related to WFS.
1) Our compromise to work for community
2) Tsavo Group - a little software company that I manage- that has been
the "finantial bridge" that enables us to put effort and money on this
project.
3) Emiliano Sala, a friend+partner+tsavo's employee+GIS pupil :-), who
has worked for 2 months redoing almost completely all the design of
Geoar. He used the concepts on Geoar 0.2, also he has learnt about
GIS/maps and put its experience working on Laszlo at Tsavo Group giving
you this new version as result.
Thanks Emiliano! Thanks to Tsavo's Team! Thanks to our customers !
Soon....
hi !...soon we will have news about a new geoar release.
First attemps/releases were the demonstration that it's possible (and
really a good experience) to create a WMS client (wfs will come sooner
too) with this technology.
I have contacts from different places around world that were interested
on this type of productions but, as you can imagine, earlier versions
are not the best one when you look for a solution (nobody wants to work
! lol, neither me).
Now, i have the chance to finally refactor application with more
resources and people involved (employees that works on my little
project of company called Tsavo Group)
So, sooner we will put this improved version on internet, available to
all and with some examples of what you will be able to do.
Geoar objectives
Geoar must:
- be easy to use and a rich experience for users (flash and dhtml ?...do you want more?)
- be easy to config and setup for sysadmin&webdevelopers (xml config files will help on that)
- be easy to extent and improve for developers (a good OO design will help !, so we work on that)
The good new is that we are on the way to give you that, and as i hope...it will be soon !
License changed
People, we move from GPL to CPL license.
I'm not a lawyer but i have learnt a little about licenses these days.
As i expect this could be helpful to your business as much as my own, i
want to allow you to use my source code without restrictions (GPL is
nice with users, but not with developers :-)...if you want to make
money using/improving what i have done, why i will be so miserable to
force you to release your improvements/projects under GPL and then,
force you to release that code ?
If you want to share, it depends on you, if you dont want, it doesnt
care to me (anyway, if that is the case, you will die as you live ->
alone and miserable :-) )
Freedom for users and also for developers !!!
Back to world
Hi People !
A good new: we are going to work on a project that will use "geoar" as
wms/wfs client, so i'm sure that first steps will be to improve current
geoar features and look&feel.
I hope to bring this improvements ASAP to community.
Excuse us if we were "out" for a while, but work is work, and only in
this cases - when work requirements meet pleasure&hobby - we have
permission to work deeply on our open source projects.
Sooner you will have good news !
Best wishes
Site hacked
Hi people ! Last weekend geoar's site was hacked, so i have spent some time reorganizing contents and demos. I hope to fix this problems on next days.
Lamentably, i have to dedicate time & effort to improve site security instead of improving geoar source code, it's a shame but it's real. I'm sure that you will understand.
Jorge Gaspar is the owner of that blog dedicated to GIS related information. Thanks Jorge for your comments, we will keep in touch with you and i'll appreciate your future comments and suggestions on this project ;-) (i know that you have experience with laszlo and gis, and it will be useful).
There is also a lot of people (considering that this kind of development is frecuently used by developers only ...lol) from different countries that visit our site. I'm thinking on a forum by country...it would be a nice place where people can be connected. what do you believe ?
Forum enabled !
Hi ! today i have enabled the forum to allow anonymous people to post on it. There are just a pair of categories, and you are free for making suggestions about new ones. Greetings!
Renewed Site
We have renewed Geoar Site !.
Now, Geoar site will use Limbo CMS to facilitate edition and maintability. Our objective is to give more dynamism to the site.
If you have any suggestion or comment please write us via contact form.
Marks Preview
There is an available preview of the Marks/Points feature at http://www.tsavo.com.ar/mapflying/ (if you select a circle, you will see the information related to that point—airports- on the right panel. Only 3 Airports shows its related fights to other airports (for instance : Las Vegas Airport).
This is just an example about the Mark Layer. All that points were configured on a XML file (but you can customize it to take them from a PHP/Java service, for instance).
Version 0.2.0
Hi people ! Well, it took me some time but, here you have, Geoar 0.2.0 is on SourceForge !.
To those that write me, thanks a lot for your suggestions - There are some crazy people that thinks that this project could be useful for them (lol ... are you sure ?).
Well, new features on version 0.2.0.
· Internationalization (you can think, for what ? Easy, Geoar intents to be a Rich Application too, so it's not only a GIS application. A detail about that: those pleople that can correct the language files, please feel free to do it ! I have made the translation online in different sites, but i dont know if It's correct 100%)
· Map Server Config (you can set parameters of the client using the Configuration Panel, or if you are an advanced user, you can use XML files to set languages and map/server parameters to customize geoar).
· Tooltips and Improvements on tools (now you have a reload map tool too).
· For developers: a little more organized schema ;-) (be patience, i'm going to improve it on next stages...step by step) and tons of comments (lol...compared with version 0.1.0) on source code.
I have developed 2 demos, one version for Arabian People and one version for Latin People. The goal of foing that is to show you how easily is to setup Geaor into your own language (it's really really easy — TODO: I must document it)
Things to come:
· Mark/Points Layer as Google/Yahoo API does.
· Google/Yahoo layers integrated to the layer panel
· Some improvements on panels UI (suggested by Muthu)
· Adding points to WFS & getting information of Layers (WFS)
· New site !...cause this is really bad when i want to update it !
Well...i hope you enjoy this new little version. Please feel free to write me (jemacchi at yahoo com ar). Your suggestions and contributions will be welcome.
New Files Uploaded
Now there is a file that contains the demo showed in this site.
If you have an Apache+PHP Server installed, you have just to unzip it on htdocs folder and http://localhost/geoar/ into your browser. Look at the demo files ! (there are some details about how to config it—a php Proxy for the modo SOLO of Laszlo App, and some javascripts to embed it on HTML page)
